New growth path to create jobs: Patel

first_imgSource: BuaNews The South African government has identified several sectors with the potential to create new jobs as the country embarks on a shift to a more labour-absorptive economy, says Economic Development Minister Ebrahim Patel. The recession took a heavy toll on South Africa’s economy, with some 870 000 people losing their jobs in 2009 and households suffering from falling incomes and high levels of debt. The domestic economy contracted by an estimated 1.8% in 2009 as a result of a decline in consumption spending and weak investment growth. Discussions had been held with companies, industry associations and organised labour on matters such as the exchange rate, industrial policy and trade policy. He added that the new growth path, aimed at stepping up the fight against poverty and unemployment in South Africa, would recognise the crucial role of the private sector in creating new jobs. Advisory panel 24 March 2010 Delivering his department’s budget vote in Parliament in Cape Town on Tuesday, Patel said the new growth path would include a focus on manufacturing, infrastructure development, rural development and agro-processing, and the “green” economy. Patel said recovering the jobs lost in 2009 would require a major improvement in the employment performance of the economy, with a focus on decent work opportunities and “better social outcomes”.center_img Patel said an important policy focus for his department would be the creation of sustainable livelihoods and addressing the challenge of enterprises in the informal or “second economy”, adding that the government would also be looking at ways to improve the performance and impact of public institutions that were vital to economic development. “We call this the development of a new growth path,” he said. “The central ideas in the developmental growth path are to enhance the labour absorbing capacity of the economy … and to find ways to connect knowledge and innovation to the challenge of jobs and growth,” Patel said. “What started as a financial crisis rapidly spread to the real economy and impacted on jobs,” Patel said. “Real GDP fell by 1.8% in 2009 but is expected to start growing to 2.3% this year, rising to 3.6% in 2011.” While South Africa’s economy had started to show signs of recovery, Patel conceded that regulatory reforms that encouraged employment were needed. Patel further announced the formation of a special ministerial advisory panel, which he said will serve as an ideas forum. “I am pleased to announce that we have made good progress in establishing the panel since my announcement of the idea some two weeks ago here in Parliament.” Reforms to encourage employmentlast_img read more

Should I continue farming?

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest By Chris Zoller, Ohio State University Extension Educator, ANR-Tuscarawas County It’s no secret that all of agriculture is suffering from years of low commodity prices and rising input costs. The economic struggles have affected you financially and physically. You’ve looked at the numbers, met with advisors, and talked to family. The thought of selling part or your entire farm brings with it added worry and concern. What can you do? Find someone you trust and with whom you feel comfortable discussing your situation. This person may not have many answers to your questions, but they can listen to your frustrations and worries. They may be able to help you sort through the confusion and develop a course of action. Think of your situation as a picture — a set of eyes looking at the picture from the outside may see things you can’t because you are caught up in the picture. Understand that you are not alone. Nearly every farm and farm family is in a similar situation. Don’t live in the past or dwell on what could or should have been done. Take control of the situation and develop a plan for managing the things you are able to control.Assessment Evaluate your financial position by meeting with your lender to discuss options for restructuring debt. Can you extend the repayment terms to provide more cash flow? Contact your Extension Educator about completing a FINPACK analysis (https://farmprofitability.osu.edu/).What are your specific, measurable, attainable, rewarding, and timed (SMART) goals? How are your goals similar and different from those of family and/or business partners? Develop a list of your education, experiences, and skills. How can you use these in another career? What career opportunities fit you best?Evaluation If you come to the decision that selling all or part of your farm is the best option, there are several items to address. Begin with a balance sheet and other financial information to understand your present financial situation. Doing so will help you decide how much money (and approximate number of assets) you must sell. You may want to meet with an appraiser, auctioneer, or real estate professional for help determining the expected value of assets.Professionals Your attorney can answer questions and advise you about legal considerations related to a sale. An accountant will help minimize your tax liability and give an estimate of what you may expect to pay in taxes.Help is available There are people and agencies/organizations that can help with the transition and the emotions that come with the sale.

Additional Links:Cache Listing RequirementsReview Process: Hiding a GeocacheCache Ownership: A Long-Term RelationshipSee the Geocaching.com video about the Basics of Hiding a Geocache. Dope scandal: Athlete Sini Jose blames coaches

first_imgSini Jose has been provisionally suspended by NADA after flunking dope test for anabolic steroid.Sini Jose, one of the eight athletes who recently tested positive for banned substances, on Wednesday blamed the country’s athletics coaches for the scandal.A member of the Commonwealth Games 4×400 metre gold winning quartet, Jose lifted the lid on the doping scandal. It was the first time that any of the tainted athletes came out accusing the coaches of giving them performance enhancing drugs in the name of vitamins.Jose said: “We had taken vitamins (not contaminated food supplements). Our coach had given us some vitamins. We are innocent.”The athletes had earlier claimed that they did not know how the banned substances got into their system. They had blamed adulterated food supplements or food contamination.Earlier in the day, three of the eight athletes, who had failed dope test, appeared before a National Anti-Doping Agency panel for their B sample examination. Jose, Tiana Mary and Juana Murmu were summoned by the NADA panel. The Union sports ministry had on Tuesday directed the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to sack the foreign athletics coaches.last_img read more

DATA MODUL: new bonding technology for high-volume projects

first_img Continue Reading Previous Mouser Electronics’ newest Methods Technology eZine explores the arrival of 5GNext Axiomtek: scalable Pico-ITX SBC for industrial IoT applications The demand for touch displays for the professional/industrial sector is also continuing to grow constantly. In order to meet this growing and very different demand, such as for quantities, diagonals, technology etc., DATA MODUL is extending its offer of bonding technologies with an additional process: hybrid bonding. This technology is new to the market and DATA MODUL is one of the first providers for the industry in Europe. Since May 2019 at the Weikersheim production site, the display expert has successfully implemented and put into operation a fully automatic hybrid bonding machine in the extended clean room.In the classic bonding process, touch, glass and display are bonded (fully) automatically with a liquid or dry glue, and finally cured. Hybrid bonding, however, is an advanced combination of proven LOCA (liquid) and OCA (dry lamination) technologies. The benefits of the two classic methods have thereby been combined and increased. From a budget perspective and due to its set-up times hybrid bonding is particularly well suited for high-volume projects. With this process, the Munich-based display expert expands its range of display optimisation options for industrial customers and offers the greatest variety of bonding methods in-house.In the near future, DATA MODUL will also invest in additional OCA and LOCA bonding machines at the production site. DATA MODUL will thereby ensure the greatest flexibility in production for industrial projects.Share this:TwitterFacebookLinkedInMoreRedditTumblrPinterestWhatsAppSkypePocketTelegram Tags: Chips & Components last_img read more
