Passenger train hits trailer full of foam blocks bound for Felida docks

first_imgAn Amtrak train carrying 164 people plowed through a trailer carrying foam blocks bound for the docks at Felida Moorage on Wednesday afternoon. No injuries were reported.Clark County Fire District 6 spokesman David Shmitke said the tractor-trailer driver hauling the foam blocks had stopped before the crossing, close to the end of Northwest 122nd Street, to make sure his two-trailer payload could make it over the crossing without bottoming out.Still, Shmitke said, the driver bottomed out, leaving one of the trailers stuck on the tracks while a train was coming, at around 2:45 p.m.The train did not derail, and did not appear to be heavily damaged, he said, although it remained on the tracks for a time as officials assessed the damage. The truck driver, and all 164 aboard the train, were unharmed, Shmitke said. The sheriff’s office was investigating what happened, and BNSF Railway employees were out assessing the state of the track, he said.BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said the Amtrak was delayed 1 hour and 10 minutes, and no freight traffic was held up. The collision did not damage the tracks.last_img read more
