It has been over one year since the United States imposed a ban on the exportation of catfish from Guyana. To date, the Agriculture Ministry has fostered discussions, but there has been no definite conclusion on when the sanction would be lifted.Agriculture MinisterNoel HolderSpeaking with Guyana Times, Agriculture Minister Noel Holder recently posited that discussions with his US counterpart would continue in the future.“We’re still in talks with the Americans. There’s no conclusion as yet … We will have discussions later and then we’ll get closer,” Holder said.Last February, he had pointed towards the bureaucratic movement between the Fisheries Department of the Agriculture Ministry and the Government Analyst-Food and Drug Department of the Public Health Ministry as one of the main challenges against compliance with the US-imposed catfish ban, which was enforced to achieve standardisation of seafood entering the country.Holder had stated that while work has been done to lift the ban, it was an international issue which had to be dealt with in a holistic manner. At that time, “nothing new” had emerged from discussions, and they were working towards an arrangement to adhere to the standards set out by the United States of America.“There is nothing new on it. It’s the question of coming to an arrangement with the US concerning our adherence to their rule or how we can best adhere to it. We just can’t lift the ban, because it is worldwide and not just against Guyana,” the Minister said.He sought to mention that if the Food Safety Authority – which was brought into force by the Food Safety Bill – was established, the process would have been faster than having two Ministries involved.“We are working with the US. If we had the Food Safety Authority in place, it would have been way much faster but what is happening here is that you have two different ministries involved … the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries Department and the Ministry of [Public] Health Food and Drug Department, so the bureaucratic movement between Ministries have some challenges.”The Food Safety Bill was presented to the National Assembly in 2016, providing for a Food Safety Authority, which would spearhead all aspects of food production, including preparation and transportation for exportation.Meanwhile, on the part of the Public Health Ministry, former junior Minister Dr Karen Cummings was quoted as saying that “progress” has been made on their end, but she did not elaborate.Last December, Holder was questioned by Opposition officials as to what Government has been initiating to lift the ban after some $14.7 million was set aside for the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism as part of Guyana’s contribution to international organisations. Then Opposition Chief Whip Gail Teixeira questioned whether Guyana could get help from this very organisation, to which Holder replied in the affirmative. She also enquired whether legislation was being drafted to assist Guyana with gaining compliance.According to the regulations, Guyana must be able to catch catfish and transport fish to a processing plant while it is alive. This is in contrast to the normal practice here, in which the fish is caught, disembowelled and the carcass is iced until it reaches the shore.
Manchester City will be without midfielder Fernando and striker Stevan Jovetic for this weekend’s Premier League clash with Arsenal.Fernando limped out of the surprise loss to Stoke a fortnight ago with a groin injury and also looks likely to miss key encounters with Bayern Munich and Chelsea in the next week.Meanwhile, Jovetic, who has impressed in the early part of the season, scoring twice against Liverpool last month, suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty with Montenegro last week.Manager Manuel Pellegrini said: “We have Fernando out injured – he has a massive problem, maybe a couple of weeks more, and also Stevan Jovetic. He came back from his national team with a problem in his hamstring. I hope Stevan could be fit next week, thought I am not sure.” 1 Fernando in action against Liverpool

If you want to massively shorten your sales cycle, it’s relatively easy to do.First, target your dream clients, the prospects for whom you can create breathtaking, earth shattering, jaw dropping value. You know the ones I mean. The ones who perceive massive value from what you do. The ones who have the exact challenges you resolve. The ones trying to get to the future that you provide.Wasting time with prospects who don’t value what you do deprives you of the time you need to spend with your dream clients. Stick to your sweet spot, come Hell or high water.Second, call your dream clients on the telephone. Don’t email them first. Don’t connect with them on Twitter. Don’t wait for marketing. Don’t wait for inbound. Don’t even hang out in a LinkedIn Group commenting on questions. Seriously, if you want to compress the sales cycle, start by compressing the time it takes you to get a meeting.I asked a small group of salespeople to make phone calls for two hours today. They booked 22 appointments in that two hours. When time is of the essence, act like it.Third, make sure that you create enough value in every interaction that you deserve the right to ask for the next commitment you need to move the process forward. Never leave a client interaction without obtaining the next commitment. The reason it takes longer to win deals is because salespeople make three calls to do what they might have done in one call.Your sales process should outline those commitments. When you leave a meeting without a commitment, you have failed. And you’ve failed your dream client by taking longer to help them get better results. There are no secrets here. These are the fundamentals. This is all blocking and tackling; three yards and cloud of dust.If your sales cycle is longer than it needs to be (or if your pipeline is shallow), ask yourself which of these three fundamentals you aren’t practicing. Sini Jose has been provisionally suspended by NADA after flunking dope test for anabolic steroid.Sini Jose, one of the eight athletes who recently tested positive for banned substances, on Wednesday blamed the country’s athletics coaches for the scandal.A member of the Commonwealth Games 4×400 metre gold winning quartet, Jose lifted the lid on the doping scandal. It was the first time that any of the tainted athletes came out accusing the coaches of giving them performance enhancing drugs in the name of vitamins.Jose said: “We had taken vitamins (not contaminated food supplements). Our coach had given us some vitamins. We are innocent.”The athletes had earlier claimed that they did not know how the banned substances got into their system. They had blamed adulterated food supplements or food contamination.Earlier in the day, three of the eight athletes, who had failed dope test, appeared before a National Anti-Doping Agency panel for their B sample examination. Jose, Tiana Mary and Juana Murmu were summoned by the NADA panel. The Union sports ministry had on Tuesday directed the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to sack the foreign athletics coaches.

It’s important to note that while our successful commercial operation helps drive that investment, the priority is the focus on achieving success on the pitch.”Similarly, it is worth noting that we are not looking at or buying players based on their commercial appeal. We agree that recruitment is critical. We are committed to getting this right and there has been huge investment in this area to put our recruitment department into a position to be able to deliver the manager the players he wants. This process is significantly more effective than four or five years ago.”
